Commission Information
At Bug Print, we take pride in our ability to create stunning, high-quality digital illustrations that meet the specific needs of our clients. Whether you are a business owner in need of a new logo, or an individual looking for a custom piece of artwork, our team is dedicated to delivering exceptional service and results.
Thank you for considering Bug Print as your digital illustrator of choice. Commissioning custom artwork can be an incredibly exciting time, however, there are several things to consider before the work can begin. Please read this document in full to ensure that you understand how the process works, what is expected of you and what to expect of Bug Print.
Pricing
I know that the question on everyone's lips is always how much the work will cost. Frustratingly, I cannot give an exact amount to a client at the first point of contact without additional information.
The base price for any logo is £70. This price includes briefing sessions, the development of a concept, font work, simple background, one main character and the final file types in .PNG (other available formats on request: .JPEG .PSD, .PDF and TIFF). I colour in RGB by default but CYMK is available upon request which must be agreed upon before any colour work begins. Files are sent in various sizes, and opacities and with singular elements where applicable (such as font work on its own where illustrations are included) along with a functional social media version of the logo. You may also receive the colour codes of your colour palette upon request so that you can colour match. Any illustrations and background work or extra file types are priced in addition to the base price. All clients also have two rounds of edits included in the price but additional editing sessions will incur charges.
Pet illustrations and custom stickers include all of the above but with a base price of £40.
To help me to quote you a price, I will need you to provide me with at least a basic vision. This must include anything you'd like to see in the background, any main characters (detailed illustrations), any supporting characters (simple illustrations e.g. non-detailed isopods in the background) and any props. This will enable me to produce a more accurate price for the work.
To reserve a 'slot', a £20 non-refundable deposit is payable. This deposit covers any time on concept work including concept sketches. The remaining balance is not due until the work is complete and both parties have mutually agreed that they are happy with the final design. Once the remaining balance is paid, your raw files will be sent to you promptly. Up until the remaining balance is received, only low-quality, secondary images will be sent to you and this will also include watermarks.
Booking a Slot
I commission artwork twice per month. You will be provided with several 'week commencing' dates. Once a quote has been given and a non-refundable deposit received, you will be 'booked in' and receive a confirmation e-mail to confirm.
Once your slot begins, I will e-mail or message you on social media with the initial concept sketches. Please keep an eye on your chosen method of contact during your booking slot so that you can respond to communication promptly. Delays in response will cause delays with the artwork and could mean that you are pushed to the back of the queue so that other slots are not impacted. Once the concept sketches have been discussed, I will proceed with creating the final vision. There will then be up to two rounds of edits before the work is complete.
If no response is received to the concept sketches within 72 hours, your slot will be forfeited and may be given to another person on the waiting list. It will be your responsibility to reschedule your slot for another time.
The Logo Process
The design process begins first with the briefing stage and moves into the concept stage where you will then enter the editing period before your commission is finalised.
The briefing stage is where we will gather your thoughts, visions and any references. At this stage, a price for the work will be agreed and you may choose to proceed with the commission and place a non-refundable deposit to secure a booking slot.
Once you have reached your booking slot, you have entered into the concept stage. During this stage, you will receive up to three concept sketches. The concept sketches will be simple linework that will be a rough composition idea of your logo. You will be contacted and asked to choose one concept as your favourite. Once you have chosen a concept, you will not be able to change your mind without incurring charges so please ensure that you are 100% sure before you respond.
Once you have selected a concept, a final design will be produced. This will include all of the colour work, font work and details. This is the longest portion of the process and there is no set period for how long this process may take. However, you will receive updates at regular intervals to keep you informed. Sometimes this period takes a few days, but for more detailed and complex pieces this can take several weeks. Once a final design is constructed, this will be sent to you via your chosen method of contact. You have then entered the editing period. During this period, you will be able to ask for elements to be edited. This could be colours, font styles, details etc. You will be unable to make major structure changes such as choosing a new main character, however. There are two editing rounds included in the price and extra can be requested for a charge.
Once you feel you have no more edits, the remaining balance becomes due. You will not have any ownership of the artwork until the balance has been paid in full and the files are transferred over. This includes any additional costs agreed upon during the various stages.
The Process for Other Work
For other forms of commission such as custom stickers and pet illustrations, all of the above applies with the exclusion of concept sketches.
Technical Information
I draw your commissions on an iPad Air (5th Gen) using the latest updated version of Procreate. Colour work is always in RGB by default but can be set to CYMK upon request. File types available via Procreate are .JPEG, .PNG, .PDF, .MP4, .GIF, TIFF, .PSD. All commissions are drawn by hand on a 3000px x 3000px canvas with 500 dpi (above the industry standard). These settings produce highly complex, large and detailed artwork that is versatile enough to be used on anything from social media icons to exhibition banners. All commercial rights remain with the client receiving the artwork but I reserve the right to display the artwork for portfolio reasons.
